Thirteen years after GTA V redefined what a video game launch could be, Rockstar is finally back. Grand Theft Auto VI — the most anticipated game in history, full stop — launches November 19, 2026. Here's everything Rockstar has actually confirmed, separated from the rumor mill: the release date, the $80 price tag, that infamous $400 collector's edition, and what we know about Vice City, Lucia, and Jason.

GTA VI release date and platforms

Mark it: Thursday, November 19, 2026. That's the date Rockstar confirmed after delaying from the original May 26, 2026 window, and Take-Two reaffirmed it in August 2026 investor remarks. It launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (PS5 Pro Enhanced), with pre-loading starting November 12 — a full week early, so you can be ready at midnight.

The conspicuous absence: PC. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or date. History suggests one will come — GTA V took well over a year to reach PC — but as of now, PC players are in the waiting room.

How much does GTA VI cost?

Rockstar broke the seal: $79.99 for the Standard Edition, $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. It's the first Rockstar launch at the $80 tier, and yes, people have opinions.

  • Standard Edition ($79.99): the base game.
  • Ultimate Edition ($99.99): digital-only, available through official stores (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store).

Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026, and come with the Vintage Vice City Pack plus one month of GTA+. Fair warning for collectors: the physical box contains a download code, not a disc — a decision that has not gone down quietly.

The $400 collector's edition that doesn't include the game

On September 24, Rockstar revealed "The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection": a $399.99 collector's box stuffed with a Macca the Gator figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a New Era snapback, a crossbody bag, a shot glass, enamel pins, and a Leonida map poster.

It does not include a copy of GTA VI. You read that right. Four hundred dollars, no game — just vibes and a shot glass. The internet, understandably, lost its mind. Is it worth it? Only if you're the kind of collector who was going to buy the merch anyway. For everyone else, it's the most expensive fandom tax in gaming.

Setting and story: welcome back to Leonida

GTA VI returns to Vice City — but not the Vice City you remember. The game is set in the modern-day fictional state of Leonida, a Florida analog, with Vice City (Miami) at its center and surrounding regions to explore. Expect Rockstar's largest map ever.

The story follows dual protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos in a Bonnie-and-Clyde-inspired crime saga. Lucia is the series' first female lead protagonist — a genuine milestone for the franchise. An "Extended Look" showcase in August 2026 gave us roughly 27 minutes of PS5 footage following the pair through Vice City, and it looked every bit the generational leap you'd hope for.

Gameplay: what we actually know

Rockstar describes GTA VI as a single-player experience. No new GTA Online component has been announced for launch — a notable shift, though few expect Rockstar to leave multiplayer money on the table forever.

  • Performance: Rockstar is targeting 30fps on consoles at launch, with no confirmed 60fps performance mode. The console wars have opinions.
  • Length: reports suggest up to 80 hours for main story plus optional content — Rockstar's longest game to date.
  • The vibe: everything points to the densest, most reactive open world Rockstar has built.

Is there a PC version?

Not announced. If GTA V's timeline is any guide, expect a PC release well over a year after consoles — possibly 2027 or 2028. PC players: start your countdown from November 19 and bring patience.

Should you pre-order GTA VI?

Here's the honest take: this is the safest pre-order in gaming. Rockstar's track record, the 13-year wait, and the sheer cultural weight of this launch mean the Standard Edition at $79.99 is an easy yes if you're playing on console day one. The Ultimate Edition's extra $20 is harder to justify until Rockstar details what's in it. And the $400 collector's box? That's a lifestyle purchase, not a gaming one — buy it for the gator, not the game (because the game isn't in there).

One more thing: November 19 is a Thursday. Workers are already booking the week off, an NBA center joked the league's performance will "plummet," and a UK mobile carrier is offering to finance the game for you. Plan accordingly.
