Castlevania is back with a new game, not a collection, a cameo or a remake. Castlevania: Belmont's Curse launches tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, 2026, in the series' 40th anniversary year, and it puts a new Belmont in the lead: Rose, daughter of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades. It is an exploration-based 2D action game — the formula that gave the metroidvania genre half its name — made jointly by Konami, Evil Empire and Motion Twin. Here is everything confirmed before launch.

Belmont's Curse at a glance

  • Release date: Thursday, October 15, 2026
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam and Xbox on PC)
  • Price: $29.99 Standard Edition, $39.99 Midnight Edition
  • Developer / publisher: Konami, Evil Empire and Motion Twin / Konami
  • Protagonist: Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont
  • Setting: Paris, 1499 — 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
  • Free demo: Live since October 1 on all platforms, progress carries over
  • Pre-order bonus: Alucard Style Costume for Rose, with either edition

A new Belmont in a burning Paris

The story picks up in Paris in 1499, with the city in flames and monsters pouring out of the shadows as a castle looms over it. Trevor Belmont answers a call for help and travels to the city with his daughter Rose, and Rose is quickly pulled into the conspiracy underneath the attack.

Rose is not a rookie being handed the family business. She is already an experienced hunter, she carries the legendary Vampire Killer whip, and she carries something else too: a tarot deck inherited from her mother, Sypha. That deck is the game's defining system, covered below. Her route runs from the burning streets and catacombs of Paris up into Dracula's Castle itself, through locations that include Notre Dame.

Familiar faces are waiting on that route. Konami has confirmed boss fights against series mainstays Death, Medusa and Carmilla, alongside newer additions including Joan of Arc and The Fallen, an early major opponent terrorising the city.

Release date and launch timing

Belmont's Curse launches on October 15, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. If your storefront seems to disagree by a day, that is a timezone effect: Steam lists the game as October 14, and launch timing coverage puts the unlock at 9pm PT on October 14 — which is midnight ET on October 15. In other words, West Coast PC players may be playing late tonight, while the official date everywhere is the 15th.

One platform note for Nintendo players: there is no native Nintendo Switch 2 version announced. This is a Switch release, listed by Konami at 30fps on Switch compared with 60fps on the other platforms. Early demo reports suggest the Switch version runs faster on Switch 2 hardware through backward compatibility, but Konami has not confirmed that boost — treat it as a pleasant report, not a promise.

Price and editions: $29.99 or $39.99

There are two editions, and the choice is simple:

  • Standard Edition — $29.99, digital only. The full game, nothing else.
  • Midnight Edition — $39.99, digital or physical. The full game plus the Digital Sound and Art Gallery and three in-game bonus items: the Trevor Style Costume, the Sypha Style Costume, and Family's Grace, a Relic — meaning it is a gameplay item, not just a cosmetic.

The gallery is worth knowing about before you decide: it is a separate application, not a menu inside the game, with 71 music tracks and more than 100 pieces of artwork, including concept art and production sketches. If you want a boxed copy, Midnight is the only physical edition.

Pre-order bonus: pre-ordering either edition gets you the Alucard Style Costume for Rose. Physical buyers should note that the costume is claimed with an additional download from your platform's store — it is not simply on the disc or card.

Our take: most players should buy Standard. The $10 upgrade is for soundtrack and art lovers and collectors, plus anyone who specifically wants the Family's Grace relic from the start.

Play the free demo first — your progress carries over

You do not have to guess whether this one is for you. A free demo launched on October 1 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC, covering the game's opening chapter. You can replay it, and if you keep your save, your progress carries into the full game — you start from the next chapter at launch, provided you are on the same platform and account and keep the demo save file.

That makes the demo the smartest pre-order there is: finish the opening tonight, and decide about the $29.99 with actual play time behind you.

The Arcana system: beat a boss, keep the boss

The biggest change to the classic formula is what happens after a boss fight. Instead of the traditional sub-weapon drops, defeated bosses are sealed into Rose's tarot cards and become Arcana — spells and special actions she can then use herself, drawn from the boss she just beat.

Each Arcana can be improved. Cards carry optional challenges called Works of Mercy — specific tasks performed with that spell — and completing them earns Blessings that upgrade the Arcana, such as making a projectile bigger or stronger. It rewards you for actually using a spell, not just collecting it.

Around that system, Rose's build is wider than the whip alone suggests:

  • Seven weapon categories, with multiple weapons in each — from swords and sword-and-shield to lances and the whip itself — found by exploring.
  • Relics that add passive effects for combat and exploration, and can be combined to shape a playstyle.
  • Whip traversal as well as whip combat — swinging and moving with the Vampire Killer is a core part of getting around Paris and the castle.

PC system requirements

PC players do not need a monster rig, but the RAM ask is modern:

  • Minimum: Windows 11, Intel Core i5-8400, 16GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1650, 10GB storage
  • Recommended: Windows 11, Intel Core i5-10400, 16GB RAM, GeForce RTX 3060, 10GB storage
