One of the most requested Tales remasters is finally playable on modern hardware. Tales of Eternia Remastered launched on consoles on October 15, 2026, with the Steam version following on October 16 — the first time the game has ever been remastered. Before you pick a platform, there is one Switch-shaped catch worth knowing about, plus a Deluxe Edition decision to make.
What is Tales of Eternia?
Eternia is a world split into two realms that face each other across the sky: Inferia and Celestia. In the Inferian village of Rasheans, Reid Hershel and his childhood friend Farah Oersted meet Meredy, a mysterious girl from the other world, and learn that the Grand Fall — a collision between the two realms — is coming. Reid, Farah, Meredy and the scholar Keele set out to harness the Greater Craymels, the elemental spirits, and stop it.
The original game is one of the earliest entries in the Tales series, reaching North America in 2001 under the title Tales of Destiny II. Its combat still runs on the Aggressive Linear Motion Battle System (A-LMBS): fast, side-on 2D action built around Artes, combos and coordinating your party in real time.

Tales of Eternia Remastered price and editions
- Standard Edition: $29.99 — the full game, on every platform.
- Deluxe Edition: $49.99 — the game plus the Deluxe Upgrade Pack: the Battle BGM Pack (classic battle themes from earlier Tales games), the Digital Artbook & Soundtrack (the soundtrack alone runs to 109 tracks), and the Super Growth Support Item Set to smooth out early levelling.
Already own the Standard Edition? The Deluxe Upgrade Pack is also sold separately as DLC, so you do not have to rebuy the game to get the extras. For most players the $29.99 Standard Edition is the right buy — the Deluxe is really for soundtrack and artbook collectors.
Platforms, performance and the physical release
Tales of Eternia Remastered is out on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam, and it is single-player only on every platform. Performance targets, per Bandai Namco:
- PS5: 4K, up to 60fps
- PS4: 1080p, up to 60fps
- Switch 2: 4K docked / 1080p handheld, up to 60fps
- Switch: 1080p docked / 720p handheld, up to 60fps
- Xbox Series X: 4K, up to 60fps — Series S: 1440p, up to 60fps
- PC (Steam): up to 4K, up to 60fps
PlayStation buyers get a small bonus: one PlayStation Store purchase includes both the PS4 and PS5 versions.
Physical collectors, take note: North America is digital-only on all platforms. Physical editions for PS5, Switch and Switch 2 are only sold outside North America — and the Switch 2 physical release is a Game-Key Card, so it still needs a download. The original Switch physical release is the one with the game actually on the cartridge.
The Switch and Switch 2 catch
This is the part to read before buying on Nintendo hardware. The Switch and Switch 2 versions of Tales of Eternia Remastered are completely separate releases:
- There is no Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack for the Switch version — no free or paid upgrade path.
- Save data cannot be shared or transferred between the two versions.
- Even DLC is not cross-buy between them.
So pick your Nintendo version first and stick with it: a save started on Switch cannot follow you to Switch 2 later.
What's new in the remaster?
- Graphics Mode and SFX Mode: switch freely between remastered and original visuals and sound effects at any time.
- Boost options: adjust how much experience you earn and how often enemies appear — encounters can even be turned off entirely.
- Destination icons: toggleable map markers, so you always know where the story wants you next.
- Battle conveniences: a high-speed mode for Auto battles, plus new Battle Retry and Quick Recovery options.
- Harder difficulties, sooner: Extreme difficulty is selectable from the very start, and a brand-new difficulty, Unknown, unlocks after you finish the game.
- Earlier endgame: Nereid's Labyrinth, the high-difficulty optional dungeon that once waited for New Game Plus, can now be entered on a first playthrough once you reach Balear Castle.
- Autosave, a New Game Plus mode, and a skit and BGM player round out the additions.

Bandai Namco has already shipped a day-one update, version 2.0.0, which adds a Font Style option (available when playing in Japanese), adds Titles to the things that carry over into a second playthrough, and fixes assorted text bugs — worth installing before you start.
On PC the requirements are tiny: an Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100, 4 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage and DirectX 12 — almost any modern PC will run it at 1080p/60fps.
