Pokémon Unite is shutting down. After nearly six years, The Pokémon Company announced on October 27, 2026 that its free-to-play Pokémon MOBA will end service on March 23, 2027, for both Nintendo Switch and mobile. If you've spent years — and money — on Unite, the next five months decide what you walk away with.
This is not a rumor, and it's not a quiet delisting. It's a dated, official end-of-service announcement, with a shutdown timeline already in motion: premium currency sales are off, a farewell event is coming, and a final tournament will still go ahead days before the servers close. Here is the full timeline, what happens to your gems and Unite Club membership, and the one thing you must not forget to do before March 23.

When exactly does Pokémon Unite shut down?
Pokémon Unite service ends on Tuesday, March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC — that's Monday, March 22, 2027, at 8:00 PM ET. The date applies to both the Nintendo Switch version, which launched July 21, 2021, and the mobile version that followed later that year.
Until that moment, the game remains playable, functional, and supported. After it, online matches — ranked, standard, and every other online mode — stop. This is a multiplayer-only game, so there is no offline mode to fall back on once the servers go dark.
What already changed: Aeos Gems and Unite Club
The first stage of the shutdown is already live, effective from the October 27 announcement:
- Aeos Gems are no longer for sale. You cannot buy new gems, the game's premium currency, as of October 27, 2026.
- Gems you already own still work — you can spend your existing balance right up until the end of service on March 23, 2027. No refund for unspent gems has been announced, so a balance left sitting there at shutdown is, in practice, lost.
- New Unite Club memberships are suspended, and automatic renewals are off. If you are already a member, you keep your perks until your current subscription period runs out or the service ends, whichever comes first.
The practical advice is blunt: if you have gems, spend them. Don't stockpile currency for a game with a published end date.
The farewell event: November 12
Before the servers close, a final update arrives on November 12, 2026, bringing a special farewell event. Players will be able to earn previously released items, including Unite licenses and Holowear, through login bonuses and special missions — including a Unite Coin Exchange where coins earned from logins and winning ranked matches can be traded for licenses, Holowear, Trainer fashion items, and snapshot items.
If there was ever a license or cosmetic you missed, November is your last real window to grab it for free through play, rather than paying for a game that is closing.

The Library feature: what you can keep — and the catch
The one thing that survives shutdown is the new Library feature. After service ends, players who complete a required Library data download before March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC will still be able to view certain records and in-game content — unlocked Pokémon, cosmetics, achievements, and tournament records — and visit the Practice Area to view Pokémon moves and Holowear effects.
The catch is in the fine print, and it's easy to miss:
- You must download the Library data before the service ends. Players who don't complete the download before March 23, 2027 will not be able to use the Library feature afterward.
- Library data is stored on your device and, per The Pokémon Company, generally cannot be transferred to a new device.
So: download it, on the device you actually want to keep it on, well before the final day. Don't leave this for March 22.
The final tournament still goes ahead
In a small piece of good news, the Pokémon Unite Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo tournament will still take place as planned on March 20–21, 2027 — just days before shutdown — with qualifiers beginning in December 2026. The game was dropped from the 2027 Pokémon World Championships back in July, in favor of a separate Tokyo event, a split that in hindsight was the first public clue the game was winding down.
Why is Unite shutting down?
The Pokémon Company has not given a specific reason for the closure. The context, though, is hard to ignore: Unite never quite caught on the way other Pokémon spin-offs did, it was cut from the World Championships, and the battle-focused Pokémon Champions launched earlier this year. With a new mainline Pokémon game, Pokémon Winds and Waves, on the horizon, Unite joins a growing Nintendo mobile graveyard alongside titles like Mario Kart Tour — while Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, notably, transitioned to a paid offline version rather than closing outright. Unite is not getting that treatment: after March 23, 2027, its online game is gone, Library aside.
What to do before March 23, 2027: a checklist
- Spend your Aeos Gems — they can't be bought anymore, and no refund has been announced.
- Check your Unite Club subscription — auto-renewal is off, but confirm it on your App Store / Google Play subscriptions page.
- Play the November 12 farewell event for licenses and Holowear you missed.
- Download your Library data before March 23, 2027 — on the device you want to keep it on.
- Screenshot your records — your rank, your favorite Pokémon stats, your best seasons. The Library keeps some of it; your own screenshots keep all of it.

FAQ
Is Pokémon Unite shutting down? Yes. The Pokémon Company announced on October 27, 2026 that service ends March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC (March 22, 8 PM ET), for both Switch and mobile.
Can I still play Pokémon Unite until it shuts down? Yes. The game remains playable, functional, and supported until the end-of-service date.
What happens to my Aeos Gems? You can't buy new ones, but existing gems can be spent until March 23, 2027. No refund has been announced for unspent gems.
What happens to my Unite Club membership? New memberships and auto-renewals are suspended. Existing members keep their perks until their current period expires or service ends.
Can I keep anything after shutdown? Yes, via the Library feature — but only if you download the required Library data before March 23, 2027, and it's stored on that device, not transferable.
Is the final tournament cancelled? No. The Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo tournament goes ahead March 20–21, 2027, with qualifiers starting in December 2026.
The bottom line
Five months is a long goodbye by live-service standards — long enough to spend your gems, play the farewell event, and save your records properly. The only real trap is the Library download: miss that deadline and your Unite history goes with the servers. Do it early, and Unite's ending becomes a farewell you actually got to enjoy, not a shutdown you found out about too late.
